A Mirror

Read each question slowly. Sit with it before writing. These are not questions to answer quickly.

Question 1

Look at your closest twenty contacts. If your professional title disappeared tomorrow, which of those relationships would survive? Name them. Now look at what the remaining space is telling you.

Question 2

When you are lonely, what is your first response? Do you reach for more people, or do you reach for a specific person? What does that instinct tell you about what you are actually looking for?

Question 3

Is there a relationship you have been avoiding building because the honesty it requires is uncomfortable? Name the specific discomfort.

Question 4

What would you say to someone who already knew you, if you let yourself say it tonight?

Weekly Practice

Read one of these each morning this week. Before the phone.

Day 1 I let my loneliness point somewhere instead of just hurting.
Day 2 I asked what the lonely place is directing me toward.
Day 3 I stopped treating loneliness only as a verdict.
Day 4 I followed the longing instead of numbing it.
Day 5 I named what I am actually longing for.
Day 6 I let the ache be a compass, not a diagnosis.
Day 7 I am willing to let loneliness lead me home.
