A Mirror

Read each question slowly. Sit with it before writing. These are not questions to answer quickly.

Question 1

When did you last say "I'm fine" and genuinely mean it, with no compression underneath the word? How long ago was that, and what were the circumstances that made it possible?

Question 2

If "I'm fine" is the visible surface, what is the sentence underneath it right now? You do not have to share it with anyone. Just name it to yourself, in as plain language as you can.

Question 3

Who in your life is allowed to hear that you are not fine? If the answer is no one, what does that cost you per week? Per year?

Weekly Practice

Read one of these each morning this week. Before the phone.

Day 1 I caught myself saying I'm fine when it was not true.
Day 2 I asked what my truth actually feels like right now.
Day 3 I let one person see past the fine.
Day 4 I noticed where the mask has become automatic.
Day 5 I gave the real answer to at least one question today.
Day 6 I stopped translating my pain into something more acceptable.
Day 7 I am willing to be known, not just functional.
